Chief Nursing Officer

KathieBrogan1Kathie Brogan has an extensive background as a nurse educator and corporate executive with experience in geriatrics, education and competency development.

Ms. Brogan began her career as a staff nurse at Roxborough Memorial Hospital and then served on the faculty of its School of Nursing for more than twenty years. During that time, she provided the educational design, implementation and evaluation for medical surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing with continual emphasis on care of the geriatric patient. She played a lead role in the National League of Nursing accreditation and re-accreditation for the school. Ms. Brogan also served as a liaison to community agencies for educational experiences. While at Roxborough Memorial School of Nursing, she was honored with the 1989 Excellence in Teaching yearbook dedication.

In 1990, Ms. Brogan was named director of Education and Quality Improvement for Patient Care Services at Presbyterian Medical Center (PMC). She was later named director of Staff Development for PMC and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and also served as a nursing service representative for the University of Pennsylvania's undergraduate curriculum committee. Ms. Brogan was administratively responsible for nursing standards, clinical policy and procedure, documentation, community education and performance improvement and patient education. Additionally, from 1990 to 1997, she had an appointment as clinical faculty for psychiatric nursing and community health at Villanova University.

While with the University of Pennsylvania Health System, she designed and implemented an organization-wide cross-training program for multi-skilled direct patient care providers in a Patient Center Care initiative. She implemented Katz and Green's Blueprint for Quality Care to enable focus on structure, process and outcomes, and coordinated the clinical placement of five undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.

Ms. Brogan formed her own company, Brogan and Associates, in 1998 and was invited to join NewCourtland in 1999 with her team of nurse educators. She has served as director of Clinical Standards and Education and is now chief nursing officer for the Network and President of the NewCourtland Education Center. At NewCourtland, Ms. Brogan has spearheaded the development of clinical policies and procedures, the Quality Improvement program and the development of numerous innovative educational programs such as the Ladder of Opportunity and the Nursing Assistant Specialist programs, along with various other programs that enhance the competency of staff providing care to the residents. Also at NewCourtland, Ms. Brogan serves as the chair on its Ethics Committee, and is a past board member on the Board of the Pennsylvania Culture Change Coalition.

Ms. Brogan, who has presented various workshops on a regional and national level, is the recipient of the Lawrence Albrect Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication (Roxborough Memorial Hospital), the Community Initiative Award (University of Health System) and Recruitment and Retention Award (American Society for Aging). She is currently on the Board of Directors at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. She is also on the advisory board for the nursing program at Gwynedd Mercy College and the advisory committee for the Health Related Quality of Research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Ms. Brogan was on the adjunct faculty at Eastern College for 11 years.
