Important Change in Social Security Act Regarding 3-Day Waiver

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, CMS has temporarily extended the Social Security Act Medicare regulations until April 16, 2022. CMS has waived the requirement for a 3-day inpatient hospital stay in order to be eligible for skilled nursing facilities (SNF) services under the Medicare A benefit.
The intention of this new directive is to facilitate quicker/easier access to skilled care for Medicare beneficiaries and reduce the burden on hospital resources.
